Kendria-small 2copy.jpgHave you ever heard the phrase "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is?"  Well, I used to believe in that phrase, but this young lady cancelled that!  This sexy young lady brings her creative talents to IREP Magazine with her upcoming Black Erotica novel, her poetry, her creative writing and her modelling!  Yes - she's all that!!  And she can cook too!

For our readers around the country, tell us what it was like growing up in
Virginia.

I love VA. I grew up in a small tourist town in VA and although I love to travel, it's no place like home.

Of all the possible literary genres to choose from, why did you decide to write "Black Erotica"?

l_085bdfca1295df0aefd2c7405025d0c7.jpgActually I started off writing children's science fiction and it was around the time I started reading Zane books and I started going thru a situation and I put it on paper and the feedback I got made me pursue Black Erotica.

Of the three short excerpts from your upcoming novel posted on your website (all of which we plan to feature in IREP Magazine) which one has elicited the strongest reactions from your readers?

Initially part 2 had a strong reaction because I started off with a few sentences and each day I would add a little more leaving the audience wanting more, then I added part 3 and it sealed the deal.

Why do you think that excerpt has had that type of impact?

I think because I describe the scenes with such passion and detail you feel like you're there.

Without revealing too many details, tell us about your upcoming novel "Caught Up". Why should we run out and get this novel the day that it's released?

Caught Up is a black urban thriller about one woman's curiosity that gets her in a situation she can't get out of and it's a must read with twists and turns and an ending that will leave you speechless.

The third excerpt from "Caught Up" describes the beginnings of a very erotic scene. Is this scene inspired more by your imagination, your fantasy, or your reality?

Both reality and imagination.

How difficult is it for you to translate that so creatively into your writing?

It's fairly easy. Every once in a while I'll get writers block but majority of the material I write about I myself or someone close to me has experienced.

Tell us about your blog entry "Love Child". Was this inspired by a true story?
l_ca79cb8964e782949298d917456abf32.jpg

"Love Child" was inspired by a true story that I myself experienced after the conception of my son.

This piece comes from a book of poetry that you're having published. Tell us about that book of poetry. When will it be available? If it's already available, where can we pick it up?

l_7dbe5ccaaea81715badc440c5ed83b4c.jpgI was in the process of having a book of poetry published then I realized my poems sounded like songs so I decided to take my material into the studio, start a resume, and sell my lyrics.

Are you working on any short stories or novels that aren't currently listed on your website? If so, what can you tell us about them?

I'm working on a children's science fiction novel called "Ghost Tales" and it's a bunch of short campfire ghost stories. I'm hoping this novel will get turned into a television series aired on The Disney Channel.

You appear to have a genuine interest and appreciation for diverse cultures and alternative lifestyles. From where and how did you gain this appreciation?

I'm very open minded. I enjoy learning about and have friends of different cultures, religions, sexual practices, etc.

Has it influenced your writing? If so, how?

It does influence my writing because I can include my knowledge of the subjects in my novels, lyrics, etc.

How do you feel about where you are in your writing career?

There's always room for growth. I don't think I'll be satisfied until something I've written either makes it in the video store, on television, or on the big screen.

What do you enjoy most about being a writer?

Letting my imagination run wild, letting the readers into my world, and educating thru my scripts and novels.

Let's talk a little about your modeling. You have some very sexy pictures on your website. What do you enjoy most
l_318537b9b58c295025d662d9f1d939d5.jpg about being a model?

On photo shoots I get to take on a different character whether it's sexy or classy, I get to step outside the box and be someone different.

Have you ever had any "drama" with other models during auditions or appearances? If so - tell us about it?

I've been fortunate enough not to have had any drama. There are the occasional times at either a video or photo shoot where I'll speak and the girls act like they are too good to speak.

Has anyone ever asked you or tried to force you to do something crazy or wrong to land a modeling job?

I've never been forced or asked to do something crazy or wrong but I have had people offer to help my career and when they expressed they were looking for more than just business and I told them I wasn't interested I never heard from them again, but it only made me that much more determined to show them I didn't need them to succeed and get the message out that you don't have to sleep your way to the top to succeed. If you have true talent you will shine thru everything.

What was you proudest moment as a model?

So far, being selected as Jet Beauty of Week.

Have you ever posed nude? If not - would you ever consider it? Why or why not?

l_65b3f1a6bf3be8ca5cf5767a8b37f705.jpgI have been asked but I've never posed nude and I don't think I would. I have to leave something to the imagination.

What do you think is your best feature?

I've been told my lips.

How does your family feel about your modeling career?

My family supports me in every decision I make.

Sex and sexuality seems to be a common theme through all of your endeavors. How did you grow to become so comfortable with sex and your sexuality?

I'm comfortable, confident, and open minded.

Why do you think so many people are sexually repressed today?

Society!

What is a normal day like for you?

Working, caring for my son, and maybe going to the recording studio for a few hours.l_4cf6b36d2e7bbcd62f705445e9dc6e12.jpg

Where do you work?

I'm a freelance writer and property manager for a company based out of Rockville Maryland.

Your dedication to your son is admirable and beautiful. Where does your passion to be a good mother come from?

GOD truly blessed me with an angel and I'm the luckiest mom in the world. I also know each day isn't promised and I don't want to live with any regrets when it comes to my son. He is my world and he comes first in everything I do.

Tell us the story of how you became a single parent? How has that experience influenced your writing and your life?

I was in a 7 year relationship with my son's father and after my son was born I found out he was cheating. I stayed with him but gave him an ultimatum. When I found out he was still cheating, I left. I valued my body too much to continue to stay in an unhealthy relationship that could cost me my life. It was hard to let go but I had to do what was best for me and my son. The experienced made me very strong and independent. It taught me to depend on no one but myself and it continued to fuel my passion for writing.

The Men (and some of the ladies) want to know! Are you married, single or in a relationship?

Although it's hard to maintain a relationship because I'm so focused on my writing, I am dating someone who is very supportive and understanding of my career and where I want to go with it.

What does Kendria look for in a man/partner?

If you can make me laugh, you have my heart. Looks are okay but personality is everything. You could be the finest person in the world but if you get into an accident and lose those looks what do you have to fall back on.

What type of man/partner does Kendria try to avoid?

l_1b7ee1c085f7b0c5e935e6f1c5607f03.jpgLIARS and people who brag about their material possessions and how much money they have.

On a scale of 1 to 10 - how important is sex in a relationship?

Sex is overrated. Personally I prefer spooning and cuddling.

How do your family and friends feel about your career as a writer?

They are very supportive. They see the potential and they know I have what it takes to succeed as a writer.

How have your family and friends impacted your writings and your writing career?

They encourage me and give me something to write about.

What is your ultimate goal?

My ultimate goal would be to have something I've written make it to the big screen.

If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go and why?

I would take my son to Disney World because he has been asking me to go and I've been saving up for quite sometime.

Do you see yourself as a role model?

I'm a role model first and foremost to my son and I have had people say they look up to me because of my drive and determination.

Is that what you're trying to accomplish in your writing?

One thing I'd love to accomplish thru my writings is educating readers and making them more knowledgeable or aware of certain situations that often get swept under the carpet such as AIDS or homosexuality.

Tell us about some of your friends who are writers that we may not have heard of. Which ones would you recommend?
l_a0422c4d9e37fc503268cc9d4fd0e09b.jpg

My friend JaCorrey will be coming out with her book "Chronicles of Destruction" in 2008 around the same time as Caught Up. Maybe we'll go on a Lady's First book signing tour.

What was your most embarrassing moment as a writer?

I haven't had any embarrassing moments. Besides I don't get embarrassed easily. I can fall in front of a room full of people and make jokes about it.

What was you proudest moment as a writer?

Entering the 2007 BET Rap It Up contest for the best screenplay on AIDS in the African American community. I didn't win the competition but receiving the confirmation letter in the mail that my film had been received and would be considered was a rewarding feeling.

Tell us about a time when you felt like giving up on your dream to be a writer? How did you get through that challenging time?

As stated before I have ran into some people that begin "helping me with my career" and when I don't show interest in them personally I never hear from them again and I just pray and ask GOD for the strength to continue without them and not let them stand in the way of my blessing. I figure if it's meant to be it will happen and if it didn't happen yet, it wasn't my time.

You are one of the hardest working women in the entertainment business! Let's talk about your many endeavors. Tell us about you work with VirgoLexus Productions and SexyAssLadies.com.

SexyAssLadies.com is a website that showcases amateur, semi professional and professional models on a national level. The company is based out of New York and the owner and CEO Virgo also has a lingerie line coming soon. I was approached on MySpace about posing for the website as well as scouting potential models. I was compensated for my work and the photos were done tastefully. I don't regret my work with SexyAssLadies.com but I do wonder what impact, if any, the photos will have on my career as a writer.

l_8ba13254239fdc6979d2bb680eb158ab.jpg Then there's Ebony Eyez out of Virginia Beach - tell us about your role with that company?

I was a freelance writer and talent scout for both Ebony Eyez and Over the Top Ent.

Also, you do some work with Over The Top Entertainment out of
Chesapeake, VA. Tell us about your latest project with them.

Then there's Xquisite Photography Productions and CUSTOM Magazine. Tell us a little about what you do for them.

Xquisite Photography Productions (X2P) is founded by Adrian Humphrey who is also the CEO of the company and we're working on several magazines. One being a hair magazine, one being a magazine that showcases professional and semi professional models and CUSTOM magazine that showcases the hottest rides and car accessories on the east and west coast. I am the Chief Editor of the company as well as talent scout. We're the future Bonnie and Clyde of the entertainment industry.

Back in July you conducted a casting call for two movies - "Like A Boi" and "Temptations". First, tell us a little about the
movies (what are they about - when and where can we catch them). Next, tell us about how the casting calls went. If you can - tell us a bit about the actors and actresses that were selected for the roles?

Both short films are my babies and I'm very proud of them. Temptations was the film I wrote for the BET Rap It Up contest and it's about one man's past that comes to haunt his future and Like A Boi is about two people who learn some secrets shouldn't be kept. The films are currently in production using several actors and actresses from the Hampton Roads area that I scouted on MySpace and the films will be submitted to several major networks as well as several film festivals.

l_890467f3bbe24643abb5722aa11b3bf8.jpg Tell us something about yourself that the world would be surprised to know?

I can throw down in the kitchen. I can fry a piece of chicken so good you'll slap your mama with the bone.

Tell us what you want us to know about Kendria that we haven't asked today.

I laugh..I cry..I make mistakes..I'm sensitive..I'm human..I'm me..I'm Kendria.
