Ms. Jessica Cheek - tell us about how you got into modeling.

It was a complete accident! I added a photographer to MySpace not thinking anything of it, he messaged me for a photo shoot and it just flew from there.

How old were you when this happened?

18, it's been almost 2 years since I started this adventure.

Tell me about your modeling career - where might we have seen you before?

I've had dozens of other online features, (though this has been my favorite! Thanks again for the poetry feature), I've also done a lot of promoting in malls, car shows, expos, as well as a couple of internet ads.

 What was your first shoot like?

I was nervous! I had no idea what to do or wear, but the photographer made me feel 100% comfortable and we had a fun time.

Who is your favorite photographer to work with?

Steve Cunningham of SMC Artwork (www.smcartwork.com) we have had 3 shoots, each one extremely different and each very fun! We did a living sculpture series where I was painted gold and covered in clay, I had fuchsia hair in another, and the most recent was fashion/glamour shoot. He has also become a very amazing friend.

What was your first big break?

I would say I'm still waiting on it

What's it like living and growing up in the south - why do you consider it such a privilege?

My father lived in Detroit so we visit often. Once you have big city life to compare to your small town life you start to feel safer. I'm not saying that cities are dangerous all the way around, they are filled with excitement but I'm the type of girl who likes everything easy and simple. I love living in the country and going to a school where everyone knows everyone else.

What's the craziest thing you've ever done with a Moon Pie?

I don't eat Moon Pies!! Lol!!

In high school were you considered the ugly duckling or were you always beautiful?

 I was always told I was beautiful but like every high school girl I had my self doubts, but I was never the ugly duckling =)

Has anyone ever told you that you couldn't be a model?  If yes - what did they say was the reason you wouldn't make it

I'm pretty lucky people only tell me generally good things about my modeling so I've never been told I couldn't do it.

Often really, school and work become too much, projects start to become generic, a lot of photographers do not like stepping outside of the box trying something funky and fun, they are only out to get inside the covers of magazines.

How did you get through that tough period?

I'm not sure I'm completely out of the woods with that yet.

Love v/s passion what's your stance or are they the same thing?

They are both so interwoven they are practically the same. You can't honestly love someone without being able to share passion with them. You can't honestly be passionate with someone without caring deeply for them. I'm lucky - I have a guy who I completely adore, I am madly in love with him, and we're definitely not hurtin' in the passion department ;)

  You wouldn't peek ;-)

  Sexually, do you prefer men, women, or both?

  I have only one man in mind

  Since beauty is only skin deep, what best describes you as a person?

  My creativity although I rarely share it with people I am proud of what I write, short stories, poems, even the novel I'm working on.

Do you fall into the cliché - look good, but dumb as rocks.

Lol, no. While I enjoy modeling it's not my career goal. I'm a full time student in the process of getting my BA in theater education

Do you think men are intimated by your beauty?  If so, why?

I've been told before that I'm intimidating but that it's more so my personality than my looks

 When going to clubs, do you buy your own drinks?

Of course, I never feel the need to accept another person's drink offer ;)

Tell us about the first time you broke someone's heart.

I was in 9^th grade lol, we thought we were sooo in love but as high school romances go it didn't work out and we parted ways he was pretty crushed

Eh, not worth talking about

On you website, you tell the story of how your sister's untimely passing has influenced your life.  Tell us more about what she was like - and why she was so important to you?

She was my half sister, we have the same dad but different moms she was 17 years older than me so it was almost like having a second mom instead of an older sister. I absolutely adored her, but when she got married a second time she took on four stepchildren and didn't have time for me so we drifted apart. I was 12. We drifted so far apart it had actually been over a year since I had last seen her or even spoke to her when we got the call she had died. She was 35. It was such a shock!  I can't even begin to describe it. The fact that her cause of death was random and could happen to anyone at any given time, my eyes were opened to the possibility that I may not get to grow old. So I just thought I better set out to do everything I can while I still can.

The ones with fuchsia hair! I had never colored my hair anything crazy like that before and I had just died my hair the day before and SMC being the awesome photographer that he is, said come on down for a photo shoot and I did! We had a blast and my best friend of 13 years came with me to do my makeup so we all laughed and had a great time being silly. I mean come on my hair was pink how often does that happen?

  You some very interesting artistic photos on your website - what was it like posing while covered in all that stuff?

  It was very fun! You really have no other excuse to be covered in clay than for a photo shoot, which is part of why I like modeling so much. I have a passion for acting, modeling is becoming another character only not using your words just your body.

  Of all the cities you've visited for shoots, which one was your favorite and why?

  I haven't done any major traveling just local cities.

  I haven't been anywhere that I haven't gone just for shopping lol

Have you ever posed nude?  If not - would you ever consider it?  Why or why not?

  No I don't feel it necessary to be naked to create a beautiful picture. I also never would, it's not something I feel is appropriate for me, I have seen some beautiful artistic nudes but some things are just not for me

  Tell us more about your pageant experiences.  What's your craziest or most interesting pageant story?

  A girl I went to elementary school with but high school was in a pageant with me my senior year, I never had any hard feelings toward and thought she was beautiful, but apparently she thought she was a lot more beautiful than me so when I won the crown and she came in 2^nd place a mini-rival situation came up and now we're in the same local pageants hating on each other every time lol. But she's a great girl and I wish her the best of luck but I do like gloat when I win and she doesn't ;)

  If you had $10,000 to buy only clothes at just 3 stores, and you had only one day to do it, what are the names of 3 stores, where are they located, and what you would buy?

  Coach - I'm addicted to their purses and you need those accessories!
Juicy Couture - Those jeans fit like a glove and everything has a J on it ;)

As far as the third I'd just look around and see what store had decent priced clothes so I could buy a ton of them!

 
How do you feel about the stereotypes people have towards models? 

  I hate it!  If people aren't thinking I'm a moron they think I'm easy. I often get questioned about having sex with photographers, which I have never done and all the photographers I have worked with have never even suggested that in any form. That is not to say that there arent guys out there pretending to have your best interest in mind only to want to get you naked, fortunately for me I choose well.

   Do you sometimes feel stereotyped or treated negatively by men or other women because of your modeling?

  Absolutely! Girls hate on me because they think I'm stuck up and going to try to take their boyfriends, and guys think I'll spread it for a compliment, but I don't let it effect me.

  What is a normal day like for you?

I'm pretty lazy really lol. I sit around reading all day, snacking, watching tv, ect. I take online classes so I get to sleep in late and do my homework whenever I feel like it ;) I'm also obsessed with my amazing boyfriend so once he's out of class I'm glued to him lol. If we're not together I'm talking to him every moment.

How often do you work out?

  Never lol, I got lucky

  What's your favorite exercise?

  I do like to play tennis or do some light running in the summer but I don't do either enough to consider it part of my non-existent exercise routine lol

  What do you like to do for fun?

  I'm a pretty boring person really, I like to watch movies, write, read, just plan relax.

Other than modeling, what other talents do you have?

  I'm going to hope that people think my writing is decent.  Lol!!

  Tell us more about you - what would you like the world to know about you?

  I'm just me =)

  Where do you work?

I don't, I had two jobs one being at my school and the other at a local Dollar Tree, I just never spent any money so now I have it all saved up and I'm just relaxing =)

What is your ultimate goal for your modeling career?

  I'd like to be in a magazine or calendar

The men (and some of the ladies) want to know!  Are you married, single, or in a relationship?

  I'm in a relationship lol. It feels like I've been with him my whole life. He's pretty perfect =) 

Tell us more about that special person.  How did you meet?  When did you know he was the one?

We actually met randomly on MySpace lol. He went to a neighboring school and we know a lot of the same people, but our paths never crossed until MySpace. We talked on the internet till 6 AM when I invited him over for breakfast I can honestly say the moment he showed up at my door I knew he was the one, who else but your soul mate would show up for breakfast at 6AM when you look like crap and still think you're amazing =) 

Our first date turned out to be on New Years Day, three days after we met. Lol!  It was great!!  It was a lot of fun and I havent been able to leave his side since =)

If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go and why?

Spain, it's incredibly beautiful and my whole life I have wanted to go there, lucky me I get to in May!!! It's a trip with my college so I don't have the kind of freedom I would like to have but its 10 days in a beautiful country that I can't wait for! Next I'd love to go to Ireland, Italy, or Paris!

What type of modeling do you enjoy the most (fashion photos, swimsuit, runway, sexy spreads, artistic layouts, theme shots, or other)

   Really the crazier the better, I love dramatic poses, lighting, and themes.

   What was your most embarrassing moment as a model?

  I don't really think I've had any, none come to mind

  Have you ever had any "drama" with other models during auditions or appearances?  If so - tell us about it?

  I never have! All models I've had the pleasure of working with or meeting have always been very sweet and very helpful

  Has anyone ever asked you or tried to force you to do something crazy or wrong to land a modeling job?

  Nope but I know there are some crazies out there so if anyone reading this wants to model please be very, very careful of what you agree to do

  You have a long list of past modeling clients and website features.  What's your secret to continually finding work and landing shoots?

  Networking, have tons of online portfolios, your website, and you have to find these features you cant sit around and hope someone who runs their own website will want you around. 

What was you proudest moment as a model?

I'm proud of everything I do as a model, the promos, photos, and features

What do you think is your best feature?

  My eyes, it's the one thing that is always complimented when I'm shooting

  What do others say is your best feature?

  Same. lol

  How does your family feel about your modeling career?

  They support me 100%!  They brag about me all the time lol

  Who are your favorite famous models? What do you like about them?

  I love Tyra Banks I watch her talk show as well as America's Next Top Model and I love how real and down to earth she is, plus she is just simply gorgeous!

What is the most important thing in your life right now?

My relationship, my future, and my family

On a scale of 1 to 10, how important is sex in a relationship?

  It's not number 1 but if you can't be passionate and share something that special with the other person it won't last if the attraction isn't there

What advice would you give to the other models out there that are trying to make their dreams come true?

  BE CAREFUL!!!! I have had a lot of offers from porn magazines and websites that have wanted me to grace their pages and be their number 1 girl. I have had a lot of money offered to me to do it, (we're talking 5 figures here), and while the money is tempting I promise that whatever they want you to do is not worth it. Also be careful of who you decide to shoot with, check with other models they have worked with make sure they are safe to be around!
