Dennis da Menace White! - Never Take No for an Answer! PDF Print E-mail

Dennis_Headshot_1 copy.jpg"Never Take No for an Answer"!  That belief has this man from school days and school plays to the top of the charts and the silver screen.  On January 16, he co-stars in the one of the most anticipated movies the decade - "Notorious".  Meet the multi-talented Dennis da Menace White!!  An IREP Magazine Exclusive!!

Tell us about the first time you performed in front of a live audience. You were 5 years old, right?

Haha! I was in a play in kindergarten and I played "Billy Goat Gruff". I was the star of the play. I then began doing shows impersonating Louie Armstrong.

271431833_l.jpgWhen did you first realize that you wanted to be a professional entertainer?

It was something that was always apart of me. I guess when I realized that I could affect a crowd with my performance.

Tell us about your first paying gig.  What was it and how did you land it?

In Fairfield, California, I used to perform on the military base every February for their Black History Celebration. I made $50 every time I performed. At that time I was BALLIIIIIIN!!

In high school were you considered the ugly duckling or were you always a
ladies man?

I was the "awww how cute" Dennis. I had a lot of beef with dudes because I stole a lot of girlfriends.

Since beauty is only skin deep, what best describes you as a person?

Creative, humorous, adventurous, loyal, practical, sexually intense.

Of all these roles, (model/actor/rapper/show host/musician/comedian/producer/ and underground party DVD star - Dennis da Menace in South Beach you really had your hands full in that one!)  Which one comes the easiest to you?

I guess hosting. I enjoy bringing the audience into my world.  That DVD got me into a lot of trouble.  Haha!

Which one do you have to work the hardest at and why?

I would say comedy and music. Those are the type of arts that's really all about who you are as a person. If you bomb on stage it's a direct reflection of you.  Comedy is my true love and fear both at the same time.

l_257cf8d2f3765ce2cff44628cc70e470.jpgTell us about your proudest moment as an entertainer.

My proudest moment was the first time I saw my name on the billboard charts.

Has anyone ever asked you or tried to force you to do something crazy or wrong to land a job?

Actually, no.  I've never been confronted with the whole casting couch situation. People do to you what you let them do to you.

What's your secret to continually finding work?

Staying prayerful and keeping company with those who are doing what I am doing and what I wanna do.

What do you think is your best feature?

My left elbow. Damn! My elbow is sexy as hell. No, really, I guess it's my eyes. That what da ladies tell me.  And my BLEEP!

In your bio, there's a reference to your mother being a Grammy nominated songwriter.  How did your mother's entertainment background influence you as a child?  How does it influence you today?

My mother demanded perfection. She always let me see what it took to be successful. I've traveled with her and I've been in the studio with her for hours. She helped me to visualize the end product and to never be afraid of success.

You have worked on an amazing variety of projects. Of all the different things you've worked on - which one did you enjoy the most?

l_ffc5e5b2d30e544dc59f067ad923a72b.jpgThat's a tough question because pretty much everything that I have done so far has been a rewarding experience for me. I would have to say "Notorious" - because I became a part of history.

Which one was the most difficult of challenging?

I would say "The Seventh Son". Playing Tupac was challenging because I had at least 11 monologues that were 2-3 pages long. I also played 2 roles. It really toughened me as an actor.

Which one taught you the most?

Fuse Television. It showed me how racist the industry is and also the politics behind the music. It also taught me how to be spontaneous and to do my research. "The Brave One" also taught me the magnitude of the film world and how it reaches people from all walks of life.

You were great in that appearance, but there's a new role that you've recently been selected to play that has the streets buzzing around the nation!  What can you tell us about your role in the upcoming movie "Notorious"?

l_4a81971974e745410f3459859ee4fcc4.jpgI play Damion "D-Roc" Butler. Biggie's best friend and Lil Kim's future manager.

2009 has the potential to be a HUGE year for you!  In addition to 'Notorious', you also have another album coming out!  When can we expect to see "E Pluribus Unum" on the shelves, and what can you tell us about this project?

It's like a compilation album of all the artists inside of me. It's the full spectrum of my love, hate and search for hip hop.

Tell us about some of the people that are working on it with you.

Baby Paul, Ahem, Milwaukee Buck and others.

Your first album, The Wonderful World of Dennis produced the #1 hit single "Buster" - but what track on that album is your favorite?

"No Analogy" or "Thugged Out Like Me".

How did you develop your unique musical style?

It comes from my musical taste. From Harry Connick, Jr. to Tribe Called Quest to Sly and the Family Stone to ODB to Donnie Hathaway to Keith Murray.

Do you consider yourself a rapper that can sing, or a singer that can rap?

A rapper that can sing.

l_7f8166c5ba36e7e30c6c50daf3c31646.jpgWhat is a normal day like for you?

There is no normal day.

How often do you work out?

As much as possible!

What do you like to do for fun?

Play ball!

Are you married, single, or in a relationship?  If you're single, tell us what type of woman da Menace is looking for?

I'm looking for a woman that can roll out with me to the hood, to a banquet, to church, to court, to a game and to the grave.

What is the most important thing in your life right now?

My family.

What advice would you give to other entertainers out there that are trying to make their dreams come true?

Never take no for an answer!
