If music is alive, it’s the beats that pump the blood. A song with fantastic lyrics but a crappy beats and music might die a slow death on the production room floor – never to be allowed to bless the world with its message. This is why remixes have been not just important, but essential to the growth and development of hip hop since its infancy. DJ and DC, the Beatdox, and doing their part on the production side of things to make sure that the music stays alive for the next generation. There’s a revolution coming and it may not be televised – but I bet money that it will have a beat that’s slammin’! Especially if these cats have anything to say about it!
Who are the BeatDox? Tell us about the crew! Give us a rundown – who writes?
We are a Production team. Who makes beats, who spits! We make the beats and we have other artists who sing and spit over our tracks How did you guys hook up and form this crew! DC: Where are you from? DC: Q boro NYC (Queens NY) What are your musical influences? DC: Old Skool Jazz, Duke Ellington, Dizzy, Miles Davis. As well Motown greats Smokey Robinson, Otis Williams (Temps), just to name a few. Auburn is the home of NY history, this is where Harriet Tubman Lived, as far as Hip Hop, These Cats have been here doing it for years. Tell me about "The Life ADolo" – This song is that true Old School – throwback – slow ride style. You don’t find too many cats puttin’ it down like this today. Tell me what made you guys decide to use this type of style. We’ll, A-dolo, the artist we work with is one of the strongest writers we have along with Startel, another artist out of You guys came hard with “Crisys’ Home” – give us the story behind that song. Our Lyrical Front Runner Crisys Just Came home from a bid everybody was so amped to have him home, it was his first time in the studio in months and we just went bananas on this one. It was his celebration track. Truth and passion for what you believe in and what you’re doing. What makes this kind of music "good" to you? The Realness behind it. For us, making a track comes from so many different elements, moods, time of day, year and sounds but best of all the element of discovery. Just coming up with a sound and doing surgery on it, thus the name The Beatdox. How do you feel about the music that's on the radio today? We feel it just serves it purpose, that’s all. If its catchy or can make people dance, it’s a hit. As far as Hip Hop no one really listens for lyrical content anymore except for the true Hip Hop fan. What is a normal day like for you? Do you guys have any kids? What motivates you to create? The Preparation of New York’s Hip Hop Revolution, Its coming. We’re just experiencing a minor set back, and you know a set back aint nothing but a set up for a comeback We hope to become a household name in the next few years; working with every one we can get our beats on. What is wrong with the world today? Nothing, its just some of the people in it. I think people as a whole are too divided which maybe the reason for all the B.S. going on today. United we stand divided we fall and keep falling. We have a Royalty Free Beat CD coming this fall called “The Cure Vol. 2” On the “Crisys Situation” album which is in stores now worldwide. Google that shit. Big Shout to my dude Crisys “there can only be one” early!
The Beatdox and GNT are coming be on the look out, shout to IREP Magazine for the interview we appreciate the love.
