Me Then and Now - Llando Obrian Shaw

LP.jpgLlando Obrian Shaw - The Pure Black Poet - gives you a tour through his soul with his first submission to the IREP Community - "Me Then and Now"

I remember the very first day I told myself, I love me for me,
And I respect me for me, honor me for me,

There was a time when I was a just a boy,
Not even a man, so many things I couldn’t understand,
Fooled and tricked into what this world should be like,
Fooled and tricked into what this thing called love feels like,
Took the jokes people once made of me,
Took the hate people had against me,
Took the scars that people placed on me,

I remember the very first day I told myself, I love me for me,
And I respect me for me, honor me for me,

There was a time when I was just a boy,
Stupid now that I think, Polo, Nautica, Guess,
Got dam, these are the things that makes me,
Now Prada, Gucci, Armani, can make people praise you,
How can I have hunger for things that are of no value to life,
For I should die today, what served its purpose,

I remember the very first day I told myself, I love me for me,
And I respect me for me, honor me for me,

I turned the music off, and said it wasn’t for me,

Tried to start calling my boys, another word,
Besides, “My Nigger?, making a fool of myself,
My ancestors would be ashamed of me,
Like all that suffering for you to call yourself that,
What kind of idiot would I be, or should I say was?

I remember the very first day I told myself, I love me for me,
And I respect me for me, honor me for me,
I took a walk down the path of life, backwards and forward,
Evaluate and investigate the times passed and times now,
See how as a man I must grow, and that growth must show,

I remember the very first day I told myself, I love me for me,
And I respect me for me, honor me for me, Let the world be and I’m just going to be me……..

Nice. This is what poems are supposed to be and feel like. It has the essence of that which can potentially reverberate in anyone who allows it to. Again, Nice.

blown away, wow, this is true inspiration for many. this poem makes one dig deep into their soul and ask oneself if we really love and respect ourselves in this very era thats made of fakes.

Another great one... I hope all this praise that people give you will be an extra motivation to finally publish your work. It would be a damn shame if it would never get out of your notebook!
